PDF/UA is a variant of the PDF standard used for universally-accessible PDF documents

PDF/UA: Published in August 2012 as ISO standard ISO 14289-1:2012-07, PDF/UA ensures that PDF documents meet the requirements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0. PDF/UA does not currently receive any special support from screen readers. The PDF Association has therefore launched the project “NVDA goes PDF/UA” together with the Swiss “Access for All” foundation, in order to further develop the open-source NVDA screen reader to allow it to fully meet the PDF/UA standard.
