IPDS – Intelligent Printer Data Stream
Intelligent Printer Data Stream (IPDS) is both a communication protocol and an object-oriented data stream between computer systems and printers.
IPDS is a proprietary page-description language created by IBM which combines both content and printer-management commands into a bidirectional communication protocol. In this respect, it is similar to the older PPDS protocol – however, PPDS is incompatible with IPDS. Intelligent Printer Data Stream is used between IBM printer drivers (IBM Print Services Facility or Info Print Manager) and the printer.
IPDS
IPDS is a bidirectional data stream controlled by the machine. It is of particular interest when tracking pages that have already been printed (e.g. for large print jobs with continuous pages). Intelligent Printer Data Stream is the protocol used between printer driver programs (PSF or IPM) and printers.
