EIM Enterprise Information Management

EIM – Enterprise Information Management

Enterprise Information Management (EIM) describes “bringing together structured data, unstructured documents, and their associated commercial applications”.

E I M represents the holistically-structured management and organisation of information within businesses. It is an extension or add-on to enterprise content management (ECM), with the critical addition of communication, collaboration and process orientation. There are no longer any divisions between types of information which would have previously formed the basis for definitions such as content management, records management, document management, asset management, and so on. This is because all information must be processed and unlocked regardless of its type. E I M, as an extension to ECM and in contrast with general information management (IM), aims to achieve business-wide information processing with a holistic perspective, procedural transactions across changing business departments, and permanent, transparent and compliance-based communications and documentation.
